Congratulations to Terri Porter, Valarie Kelly, the Health and Human Services Facet, and the National Trends and Services Facet for hosting the Moms Making Boss Moves Summit, at St. Leo’s Catholic School on February 25, 2023..
The two committees transformed the school’s multipurpose room into a wonderful and colorful oasis, that included a “photo booth” that provided each participant with a souvenir photo. Decorations included beautiful floral arrangements designed and created by our very own Radonna Scott.
Six current residents, one alumna resident, and a Board Member from Elizabeth House (EH) attended the event today.
The Summit kicked off with a continental breakfast that was followed by a welcome from Link Theresa Clincy, the Occasion by Shakeya A. McDow, and a meditation by Beryl Crumpton Potter. The attendees then moved into a breakout room for a workshop titled, Pursuing Financial Freedom. The workshop was facilitated by Lauren Jennings and Shakeya A. McDow. Following a brief break, the attendees settled in for the second workshop, Amplifying Your Image, facilitated by Terri Porter and Sheelah Hogg. A special guest, Dee Borgeson, a Chico’s style expert, presented tips and suggestions for finding and creating one’s own sense of style. Dee also provided gifts of a scarf, necklace, and bracelet for the attendees.
A delicious luncheon was served by Chef Lala, that included garlic chicken, rice, spicy green beans, Caesar salad, and rolls.
The women from Elizabeth House were engaged and thrilled to participate in the workshops and appreciated the change of venue. Our work this year with EH has paid off. There was a sense of trust that we have created a safe space for conversation and growth. Thank you to Shakeya A. McDow, the architect of our program this year!!! OBAL provided gift bags that included a cookie, a bracelet with the inscription “because she could, she did”, a pen, and Elf cosmetics.
Thank you to the Link sisters that provided support, assisted with planning, helped prepare for the event, helped set up or clean up, provided donations, and/or attended today: Regina Shields, Nicole Wilkins Muhammad, Jasmine Dartez, Thad MacFarlane, Michele Davenport, Mandy Fields, Radonna Scott, Valerie Lewis McGee, Sheelah Hogg, Alice Morris, Lauren Jennings, Felicia, Stuckey Smith, Shakeya A. McDow, Terri Porter, Valarie Kelly, Terry Mosley, Beryl Crumpton Potter, and Theresa Clincy. And a special thank you to Sonya Simril, the Principal of St. Leo’s, for opening up her school to us today. It was a collaborative, well planned, and well executed awesome day, as noted in the attached photos.
