The Oakland Bay Area (CA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated kicked off the Dr. Me! Program at St. Paul’s Episcopal School, in Oakland, California on Monday, October 21, 2025. The Dr. Me! Program is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) enrichment program designed to expose elementary school-aged African American children, in grades Kindergarten-Fifth (K-5), to careers in healthcare, emphasizing medical science, ultimately including but not limited to dentistry, nursing, and research.
The program activities kicked off with a White Coat Ceremony where students were issued a white lab coat and repeated a Dr. Me! Oath committing themselves to be engaged and active participants in the Dr. Me! Program.
The Program introduced students to the Amazing Human Body Systems and delves more deeply into five of the Systems, the Digestive System, the Central Nervous, System, the Respiratory System, the Musculoskeletal (Muscular and Skeletal Systems), and the Circulatory System. Each module includes an introduction to the system and an interactive activity. During the course of the year they built models of the lungs and created “poop” during a lab experiment. They also had opportunities to speak to physicians in different fields. Our five (5) Facet Committees took turns facilitating the modules.
The Program will conclude in May with a Certificate of Completion Ceremony.
